As an organisation, and as a worldwide community of Globalwots!
The five of us first met in Singapore in 2013. Like many expats living in Singapore, we explored South East Asia and beyond with families and friends whenever we could.
Did you know: 80% of all travel is planned, researched and booked by women.
When planning a trip, the first thing we did was turn to friends and ask “Did you go here? Where should I stay, and what should we do? What can you recommend?”
Being women, our extensive expat network always had something to say!
The idea behind Global Women on Tour: to have a platform with itineraries and answers for other women asking the same questions.
By 2017 three of us had moved to other countries, but the friendships persisted. We all continued to ask our fellow women travellers for travel advice.
The first photo is of the five of us reunited on a girlfriend trip in India late 2018. It was an unforgettable trip with two major highlights: One was our delivery of menstrual kits and education to young girls on behalf of Days for Girls. The other highlight was the unexpected birth of Global Women on Tour as a concept.
From that simple idea, the craziness escalated:
What if we could turn this informal transfer of knowledge into a powerful tool? What if it inspired more hesitant travellers? And, how can we pay it forward to the women who need it most?
Days for Girls is our first charity of choice: as well as supporting their efforts through awareness and formal partnership, all our net profit is donated to them annually.
We each agree that travel is a great educator. It broadens the mind and feeds the soul. We’ve seen this in our own children. We have each navigated life in foreign countries with children at our sides. Between us we speak six languages and have lived in ten different countries. One of us has a family of five boys with whom she travels regularly. One of us has ridden a Harley across the USA. Some have stayed in yurts in the steppes of Nepal. Between us we have visited a total of 142 countries!
But the amazing thing is, that we’re not so amazing! Thousands of women have experienced the joys of travel. And you can too.
People can travel to the same place with vastly different experiences: there is so much to see and do.
People share recipes online all the time. We can do the same for travel experiences and itineraries and help our fellow women travellers find their way, all without fake news or reviews. We would love for you to join us.
Love from your fellow Globalwot,
